The market is strengthenong in all sectors - beef, pork and lamb. -

PIGS - Sow Prices going up again and a really strong demand for prime pigs with a smaller lift in spot prices than recently....................................

BEEF - Prices still increasing driven by a global shortage with highs not seen before - prices have lifted by about 35% since the beginning of the year...........................

LAMB - prices still strong for good hoggets - new season lambs in good demand but less numbers coming forward in comparison to last year and some price resistance now..........................................

Blue Tongue Vaccine has arrived


The first two batches of vaccine have been made available to livestock keepers in the Protection Zones to purchase through their private vets. As soon as further batches of vaccine are delivered, vaccine will be rolled out to the rest of the counties in the second priority phase for vaccination, before progressing more broadly across England county by county. Further batches of vaccine will be delivered by Intervet at regular intervals over the summer.


IMPORTANT: Stop Press - Ensure Livestock Driver Certification before May 2008 - this is essential for drivers and attandants in respect of Beef and Sheep..............

Transporters carrying out journeys over 65km and under 8 hours must be authorised by the competent authority.
Farmers transporting their own animals in their own vehicles under 50km from their holding are exempt. However, good animal practice during transport must still be followed.
